Haptic

Today I shrunk to the size of a mouse. Flowers grew, giant bells nodding gently in the dappled sun. I plucked a bloom, a pink sweet thing, perfuming the air with the smell of honey and rose. I walked along the hollow walls, trailing petals in my wake. The grass opened up before me and every shadow called my name. I was la petite belle, I was Thumbalina escaped from her room. The world was large and strange before me, and I tiptoed through its rapturous glory. Pearls of water glistened on leaves the length of my body, and the ground sprang beneath my tiny feet. I jumped, I scurried, I flung myself out into the great beyond, and finally, fluttered to a stop beneath a twisted tree, as shapeless and infinite as a universe beyond my sight. Stay with me awhile, and I'll tell you all about it; the sight, the smells, the sounds, the rich tapestry of magic and living, and we'll both grow old together underneath a starlit sky.

Simone Rocha Spring 2015

I'm so in love with Simone Rocha's Spring collection. The collection's theme is reportedly about love actually, and it definitely worked for me. The luxurious fur-trimmed black princess dresses, the sheer veils spun with floating red-blood flowers, the repeated flower motif almost choking in its overall effect, like a too-dense garden left to seed, the little slippers and thin-soled shoes...there is a sense of drama to these clothes, but with an edge; a fun and strange blend of wear-ability and luxe impracticality. I must say that the little scalloped cloud bag (in the photo right below), and owlish glasses with mirroring white trim (worn by a model lower down in the post) are two of my favorite details.

I'd personally love any of the white coats with scalloped edges, the little black dress in the very first photo, that cloud bag <3, and any of those cute pairs of shoes!

Adventure Time

One day I went to visit a friend and we went exploring and it was grand. I wish a lot more of my days consisted of adventures. Guess I'll just have to find them on my own. I don't really feel like talking much, but that could be because I've been sick these last few days. It really takes it out of you. The (small) upside is that I've been getting loads of sleep. The better to get better with? This is all I got.

Old School

It was kind of fun to show up at to class with a little cloche gray hat; it added an instant old-school vibe to the whole outfit. I've noticed that a lot of my outfits aren't actually vintage, but modern pieces worn in a way that gives off a vintage air. I (usually) don't even try to do it on purpose, I just put clothes together how I like to wear them and voilĂ , I suddenly look unmodern. Maybe because I like a lot of longer hems and play around with different shapes and silhouettes that don't seem very mainstream. Although, when everyone around you is wearing yoga pants or skinny jeans, it's not that difficult to stand out just by throwing on a skirt.

When creating this particular outfit, I knew I wanted to pair the gray turtleneck with the slip of a green dress; everything else sort of just fell into place after those key components. I loved the idea of looping a necklace over the neck of the shirt. It's definitely an idea I want to use again in the future. I love keeping track of little bit and pieces of fashion experiments, like a little mental collection, and then recycling them in new ways in the future. When something is fun, you want to do it again, right? That's my style philosophy anyways. It's using what excites and creatively stimulates you and reusing those ideas in more creative ways. Without the thought and ideas and layering of concepts to play around with materially, I feel like fashion or style, or whatever you want to call it, would just be static and boring. Instead of the focus being on looking "pretty" or "cute", dressing a certain way can be a happy celebration of textures and colors and proportions. A living, wearable architectural sculpture you can recreate every day. That is what intrigues me and keeps me motivated style-wise. It's the exploration of ideas that fuels me. I know it seems like a lot of thought just to go into something as normal as getting dressed, but why not? It's fun. :)

I also couldn't resist putting in a LOT of pictures of the nature I was surrounded in when these pictures were taken. I even cut back on them, but everything was so beautiful, it was hard to resist. Look at those colors! Those lines! That light! The world is just so beautiful and exciting.
