Sunday Style: Bridal Shower Edition

This outfit did double duty for me, as both a church morning and for a bridal shower right afterwards. It's not as fancy or floral as most bridal shower outfits usually are, but I had put it together on a previous occasion and had been wanting to wear it for awhile, so I thought, "Why not?". Turns out people seemed to love it also, so I guess it definitely worked out :). I loved the clean lines and the simplicity of it. Every article of clothing went well together, and it was a very uncomplicated outfit. In fact, the most difficult part was trying to organize my insanely thick hair! My crazy hair pretty much has a mind of its own..

The skirt is pretty similar in fit to the bright floral skirt in my previous post Color Like A Sucker Punch. I actually bought the two at the same time from a thrift store, marveling that they BOTH fit my body type so well. It's so difficult to find well-fitting skirts and pants when the hips don't lie, amirite?

Speaking of fitting well, I also love my white shirt. I bought it because it's hard to find white shirts that can be tucked in and still look good, and this shirt hit both those marks. The detailed lace mesh on the back was also a nice touch. It has quickly become a wardrobe staple. Yay for good clothes finds!

I just realized I also love my dragonfly earrings. And my feather hair clip. I pretty much love this entire outfit. The love is real.

Easter Sunday

I often will take a series of photos and keep them on my external hard-drive until I have a chance to edit/download/write a post. So a lot of the outfits are a few weeks old. Such is the case here. I took these photos with my tripod on Easter but haven't had a chance to write a post till now. Although there is a slight lag, I really don't think it matters that much since every outfit I make, I'd still wear right now.

This post was fun because it was cloudy and overcast with the chance of thunderstorms approaching the next day. I was really hoping to find a place to photograph, so I pulled over onto a random exit off the freeway on my way home from church, and magically found this little abandoned patch of land with a derelict building?house? with parked tractors and signs scattered around it. I think it all belonged to the farm across the road, but the place was totally open and ripe for exploring. I simply couldn't resist such splendor, but I did try to make my photo session quick.

What I also really enjoyed about this series was that I was really trying to use my tripod in artistic ways, and was setting it up to catch certain viewpoints and angles. Using the tripod still feels like a hit or miss when I use it by myself for my own photos, and it was nice to finally feel a certain mastery with it. Hopefully that will be a continuing trend.

I love how faded and worn look everything looked, and how my soft yellows and blues really stood out against the pale walls, but also seemed to match the colors around me.

Dat buttery yellow though.

Now that I got the tripod stuff down better, I just need to work on my awkward posing.
Poser alert!

Black Widows In Tunnel

I have a natural enthusiasm it seems, of living that forceful vividness that overwhelms one so strongly. Life is beautiful, and I am swept up in awe and an uncontainable joyfulness that one's heart can fairly burst. Life is not without its bitter sorrow, and sometimes the nights are dark and long indeed, but for now, I'm soaking up the light and am full of happiness.

I love vintage dresses that have a certain fit, and this one is almost baby-doll, with a little gold-leaf print and a black lace trim. I took out the shoulder pads as I am not a fan of the broad-shoulder look, but I love how this dress fits and it is easy to run around in while still looking cute. (Which is always a plus, in my book!)

I also love these shoes.

I found the dress at a thriftstore (surprise, surprise) while the shoes were on discount from DSW. I love the multi-strap look to them - they actually have a zipper in the back though, so they are extremely easy to put on!

Can you see my feather hairclip? It's gorgeous.

Leaves are delicious?
