White Pine

Solid cool weather post - wore this outfit a few weeks back, when I felt like showing off a new pine-green dress. I paired it with pure white tights and sweater, and gleams of gold at my ears and crown. Simple, classic, and easy, but with a touch of something extra. Even on my most basic outfits, I always have to add a certain tiny something that makes it fully my own. In this particular outfit, it was the gold leaf headband. I love the look of it, but unfortunately, it catches in your hair like nothing else, so wearing it always comes with some expectation of effort. I found the gold earrings for $6 at a flea market. I'd been craving pure gold at my earlobes for awhile, so of course I snatched them up as soon as I saw them. I remember there was a broad selection of earrings at that booth, but these were the only ones I liked. It's funny how that happens; either good finds are rare, or else I'm just picky. Wearing golden jewelry has a double bonus for me, because it matches my hair. I like how my hair is its own accessory, and I definitely try to play that up. It will be fun to wear this outfit during future autumns and holiday seasons with tights and boots or heels, and then in spring with bare shoulders and leather sandals. So many possibilities for a deceptively simple green dress. Even writing about this dress makes me want to wear it again; I'll have to try pull it out this week and wear it to school. I wish rich green was a more popular clothing color, as I love how it contrasts with my dark hair and golden skin, but for now, I'll have to content myself with sales online.

New Year, new life. This shoot is from a few months ago, where even in fall, it's eternally warm. I was trying on a dress I liked in the dressing room at a thrift, but didn't like it much after wearing it. It's not as fitted as I like, and it felt a bit baggy on me. It actually looks a lot better in these pictures than how it felt on my body though, and I paired it with turquoise liner on my bottom lids and a weird green and gold necklace I found at another thrift. I'm a sucker for tribal prints and good colors, so in the end, I liked how the outfit turned out.

As for the new year, I didn't do much of anything. Stayed up on my computer, and listened to the booms of our neighbors celebrating. I'm not really a New Years celebrator, but I do like to use it as a post mark for my goals in the upcoming year. Keeping track of time is not really my forte, so any time marker for me is progress. Really, I just have a list of things I need to get done and want to do, and although I don't have a resolutions list, I do hope to accomplish my goals and work closer to my dreams in the upcoming year. There is so much I want from life, and the only thing holding me back really, is me. So here's to a new year, and a renewed determination to push on.

Green and Gold

All I want to do is wear strange clothes that fit my mood and soothe my mind. I talk about clothes so much on this blog because that is literally what I made it for. So I can talk about clothes. My clothes, usually, and in lots of detail and expressive language. I want the colors I'm wearing to fit together well and to make me happy when I see them. I want to dress exactly how I want to look like and create this image of who I am. There are many future versions of my look, but underneath it all runs a cohesive aesthetic. I'm not really a sophisticated sort. I like color and texture, and am too messy and rough around the edges to ever master the sleek and polished look. I do have a bit of hair-envy of girls who can just throw their hair however they want and have it look great, but that's because I spend X amount of $$$ throwing a bunch of product in my hair to make it somewhat manageable. It doesn't even have those cute natural curls, it is literally just a mass of frizz when nothing is in it. So I slap some gel around, and it helps it stick to its natural wave. I sometimes dream about looking all business-ey and boss-woman like, but I'm a mess, and I'd miss my real clothes. Truthfully, I'd rather wear what I like to wear, I'm just more entertained by the idea of looking like a real fashionite. For now, I'm just a small-town thriftstore kid wandering through the suburbs.

 

I remember walking through these spaces of empty air and empty lots only a few months ago, and now they are filled with houses and the frames of future homes. It usually never bothers me, but this is the one spot that started me thinking of all that, and I can't get over the idea in my mind that the places in which I stood and moved and ran in are now just ghost spaces inside somebody's house. I'm probably just getting old. I told my boss the other day that I was born a grannie. That may or may not be true.

Anyways, I loved the rich yellow tones of the scarf paired with the darker green. I found this beautiful dress as a lucky find at a thrift and the scarf was from one of those trinket/random clothes stalls that popped up for two days on my campus. I rarely ever buy anything yellow, but this time I couldn't take my eyes off the bright velvet scarf, and I ran back after class to grab it because it haunted me in the back of my mind. It's funny how some things will follow you. Am I the only one?

Gold Leaves and Autumn Longings

In the midst of this summer heat, I am definitely craving that fall air. Although I do love my little dresses and cutsey skirts, there is something about boots and scarves I can't get enough of. The trick is finding something you can layer over enough and still be warm, while not being cooked in a heated room. These photos are obviously pulled from a colder month, when summer was just a word in the chilly air.. For now, I'll just stick to my fall day dreams and ice cream cones, while sweating through the rest of these blazing days.

This skirt I'm wearing is one of my favorites; I love its painterly effect. It remind me of watercolor scribbles on the side of your page where you dip your brush to create the correct color. It's those imperfect streaks and dabs when tumbled together in a harmonious spectrum that create such a joyful flow. The tawny golds and multiple blues never fail to bring a smile to my face, or at least, inside my mind.

Intergalactic

It was wild and windy yesterday evening, after I got out of the photo lab and decided to snap a few pics before I went home. This outfit is based upon my galaxy skirt that I got from Modcloth a year or so ago. It has such a cool print, that I usually wear mostly black to show off the skirt, but this time I added a light cyan coverup as a color contrast. It also matched the light blue of the stars. I love the gold detailing on the shoulders, almost like epaulets on a uniform. The necklace I'm wearing was a gift from my mother for my birthday a week ago. It's a slice of a geode with the edges dipped gold. There was actually a pair of them in the form of earrings, but it was clearly made by someone who never wore any, because they were far too heavy for earlobes - but perfect for turning into a pendant! It also matched the rest of my outfit. Sometimes items work together so perfectly, it's like they were made for each other. The lipstick is a new shade I'm currently obsessed with. It's made by the brand "Iman" which I randomly picked up in a drugstore. Such a pretty shade! I loved the effect of the metallic gold, bright cyan, and rich magenta. 

My bangs were out of control with all the crazy wind. Such is the bang life.
